Free 2009 Summer Sampler from Fearless Records

Fearless Records has just released a free 2009 Summer Sampler which includes unreleased songs from Breathe Carolina, The Word Alive, and Lets Get It. Other featured artists include Eye Alaska, A Skylit Drive, Sparks The Rescue and Artist vs. Poet. You can download the 7-song digital album from the above link and from their MySpace page. I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised when I heard the entire compilation - it's a first class, varied & funky rock sampler. Great set of bands!

The Johns’ foresight/poorsight free album now under Creative Commons on FrostWire

The Johns is a Chicago based indie rock band composed of four life-long friends who are determined to keep their music independent of popular trends and opinions of others. "[They] aim to proceed as an undefinable sort of pop music, drawing from a history of playing metal, jazz, funk, blues, folk and art rock and pulling from influences as varied as Neil Young, Mike Patton, Television, tin-pan alley jazz, The Police, Les Paul & Mary Ford and onwards and upwards."

Juanitos – “Best Of”

Juanitos is an exotic rock-n-roll band from France. The members include (if my translation from French is correct): Juan (vocals and organ), the Blob (surfing guitar), Dave (groovy bass), Chang (country guitar) and Jyle Malone (drums & bongos). On the "Best Of" you can hear a bit of reggae & soul with nu-Latin Brazilian beats, but the 50s "Beach Boys" feel of the album can be noticed in almost every track.

The Intercontinental Music Lab (IML) is a world-wide music project whose aim is to promote musical collaboration. The subject of IML's first album was "Superheroes of Science", second "Superheroes of Sea" and the third was "Superheroes of Space".

Advance Patrol’s newest album “El Futuro” on The Pirate Bay’s homepage

We were really happy to discover this morning that the PirateBay is promoting Advance Patrol's newest album on their homepage. This will definitely help the band get some awesome exposure and potentially thousands of new fans across the world (they are already among the top 100 downloads in the audio category with almost 1000 seeds!). The promotion is also an effort to publicly discredit the prosecution against The Pirate Bay - where it seems like the Advance Patrol was unknowingly listed as a plaintiff - and show the world that file sharing can be legal & beneficial to the artists. It also just so happens that "El Futuro" is an awesome Latin hip-hop album - it will get your body moving right away! Download away - free and LEGAL from The Pirate Bay.

Bam Bam: Bam Bam

The self-titled 26 minute EP by Bam Bam is a bit of a thrill to listen to. It sounds like they went into the studio with every trick they had and spared nothing. While Brian Wilson need not worry about losing his throne, this collection of power pop ditties turns how to be immensely creative and listenable. The lyrics are in Spanish yet it is not a problem since it is the infectious spirit and likability of this band that carry the session. “Oro Flash” is the highlight of the set with its slightly psychedelic leanings mixed with enthusiastic vocals but I also enjoyed the Animal Collective sounding “Hi-Q” and the lively “Sin Las Patas Traseras”. No, it’s not Pet Sounds (what is?) but it’s Bam Bam and that’s good enough for a party.

Legacy: Lagacy

We have a star on the rise for you here! Danny "Legacy" Mcbride is a very talented New York artist with a broad musical range. His sound is a fusion of R&B, Pop, Jazz, sometimes even Gospel & Rock. He's been producing local artists since he was twelve years old, learned how to play piano at age five and sang ever since he could speak. He has written or co-written all of the songs on this self-titled album and spent countless hours of recording and producing to bring it to perfection. Some of the songs feature two of his good friends and studio partners - Critical and G-dub.
