Jay Fraser: Buildings of Dreams

After packing his bags and leaving his hometown (Launceston in Australia), Jay Fraser carved a path where music takes center stage. He left for Europe and pursued his musical career, recording this delightful acoustic folk pop compilation. Getting help from Richard Campbell of Orpheus Studio as well as long time friend, Tim Downey; he was able to turn the highs and lows of his experience into 10 solid tracks. The album took four months to record and gave the singer a chance to showcase his blues inspired, acoustic folk cuts and share it with his listeners.

Magnetic Memory: Magnetic Memory EP

After years of working together on their music, four-piece Springfield, MO natives Magnetic Memory are finally ready to share the fruit of their hard work. This self-titled EP is their first compilation. Featuring 8-indie fun lovin' tracks; each song is reflective of the band's willingness to take their time as they explore and create plenty of musical reflection as well as lyrical innovation on the record. Made up of Phil Davis, Tony DeLuca, Adam Wright and Cody Lane; they consider bands like Modest Mouse, Wolf Parade and Arcade Fire as among their influences.

One-Eyed Doll: Dirty

Recorded in vintage gear, One-Eye Doll's record, Dirty is as gritty, loud and special just like any vintage instrument. It's a loud and biting record that showcases frontwoman Kimberly Freeman's cold, at times sweet vocals. Doused in a gloomy, dark atmosphere, it brings solid metal, punk and even a bit of blues rock in tow. Thanks to this combination, the band expertly delivers tracks that are catchy, melodic and can easily grab your attention.

Cloudkicker: Beacons

Okay, Cloudkicker officially has my vote for being one of the sickest metal bands offering music for free online. Even more impressive perhaps is the fact that there's only one guy manning all the luscious mayhem you hear when you hit the play button. Ben Sharp, aka Cloudkicker, has been winning praises and reviews from artists and enthusiasts everywhere thanks to his consistent, enjoyable and innovative sound. Beacons is his second album and was released a couple of years ago in 2010. Featuring 10 loud instrumental progressive rock tracks, you'll find the record as a good distraction you'll want to entertain for a long time.

Les Vinyl: Thinking Overthinking

Les Vinyl is a band you turn to for some fun alternative indie rock. Hailing from Staten Island, New York; the group likes to keep things simple with a traditional band setup. The quartet delivers a sound that's every part familiar indie rock yet with beautiful catchy hooks and a quirky touch. It's this mixture of simplicity and eccentricity that makes the band a worthy act to watch out for. ThinkingOverThinking is their latest effort and features music that's reminiscent of early Weezer (including the cheeky lyrics.)

The Symphony of Science: Collector’s Edition

Occasionally, you'll come across really unusual albums online that you can't help but be fascinated with them. The Symphony of Science is one of these records. Taking a clue from the title alone, you can tell it's gonna be a geeky and quirky ride. The idea behind the record is to bring "scientific knowledge and philosophy to the public, in a novel way." Spearheaded by John D. Boswell, he initially released the experimental collaboration on video. Combining lectures and essays with a mix of electronic melodies, he created a unique record that's not only enjoyable but also quite enlightening.

Felipe Sarro: Bach

If classical is more your thing, you might want to grab this little gem from Felipe Sarro. The Brazilian pianist takes on the music of one of the most influential and well-known classical composers ever, Johann Sebastian Bach. He plays several of Bach's original works as well as several transcriptions of Bach's music done byRussian composer Alexander Ilyich Siloti. Every single piece was recorded and played by Sarro on piano; recreating, reliving and celebrating the sound of the revered German composer.

Jess Penner: Growing in the Cold

Jess Penner is a talented singer/songwriter that has been winning raves for her beautiful voice and sound. Based in LA, Growing in the Cold is the singer's latest compilation. It follows the successful release of her debut album, Love, Love, Love. Since her initial offering, her music has been featured on various TV shows, movies as well as commercial campaigns. Armed with a guitar and her sweet, sometimes quirky vocals; her music is lighthearted and filled with great melody that easily charms.

The Year Million: The Year Million

When it comes to alternative rock, the genre is often littered with bands that all sound the same. However, occasionally there are bands who up-the-anti and deviate from the usual mix to bring their own brand of sound; The Year Million seems poised to do this. This Boston-based band is made up of Scott House (vocals), Jason Calieri (guitar), John Salogiannis (bass), Rob Wu (drums), and Bjørn-Atle Reme (synth). Together, they play their own flavor of indie alternative rock. Creating subtle and enjoyable melodies that garner comparison to bands like Queens of the Stone Age.
