Hypatia Lake: Ouroboros

It's easy to spot which iconic rock band has inspired much of Hypatia Lake's' sound. From the magnificent dirty guitars, those shouty vocals and a dark, sinister vibe; Ouraboros channels quite a bit of Sabbath and Led Zeppelin in its tracks. Hailing from Seattle, Ouroboros is the fourth record from the crew. It's a concept album of sorts as the band has created unique tracks that revolve around the epic battles and excursion of protagonist, Rose Marie. Serving as a nice throwback to 70s rock and expansive concept records, the album flourishes and entices listeners to enter into its sonic landscape.

NazcarNation: Dynazty EP

NazcarNation isn't really a band about racing or anything like that, instead they're an electronic indie pop chillwave trio that creates pulsating and catchy tracks. Founded in 2008 by Chris Wargo and Craig Robert Smith, the band first started out back in LA. Drummer/multi-instrumentalist, Mark Balane, soon joined in and they ended up recording most of the tracks on the EP. Skillfully fusing hip hop, ambient, and electronica; theirs songs have a midtempo chill out beat that's easy on the ears.

Nation Ruckus: The Pre-Tape

Gotta admit, how many hip hop rap groups do you know from Canada? If you answered one or two or maybe none, then here's a great act to check out: Nation Ruckus. The trio is a hip hop collective made up of "rapper Milk-E Fresh, beat-maker Quality and DJ WiM." Taking a cue from groups like The Beastie Boys, Outkast and even The Roots; the boys spin their own rhymes while creating luscious and catchy beats that anyone can enjoy. The Pre-Tape contains 11-tracks that serve as a prelude to their upcoming album. It's available for free and meant for anyone interested in checking out their sound.

Mathemagic: II

Mathemagic likes to record fuzzy pop music that you'll most likely want to get lost in when you're having one of those challenging days. Their music is both hallucinatory and engaging, making you want to simply float away as you take in each strum of the distorted guitars or listen to the zoned-out vocals. II is the latest release from the dreampop Canadian trio. Despite being relative unknowns, they have produced a beautiful record filled with 11 tracks that mesmerize its audience from start to finish.

Atupa: QuatribaRap

You don't really need to know a particular language in order to enjoy music. As trite as it sounds, music is a universal language. It communicates through emotions and sounds. Atupa's sound is one such example of music transcending the barriers of language. Even if you don't understand a shred of what the boys are rapping about, you're still in for a good listen. QuatribaRap was released last July 2012 and it's currently offered absolutely free over at the group's BandCamp page.

Goodmorning: Soul Monitor

Goodmorning might seem like a forgettable name for a band/musician but the sound is definitely something that won't be easily forgotten. The person behind the music is actually just one-man, Eric Slyter. Soul Monitor is a side project for the singer since he's also a member of the band, Murakami. The album contains 11-tracks, some of which were songs he started recording back in November 2010. Combining a mix of bedroom pop, indie and alternative, his songs capture a sincerity and warmth listeners can easily enjoy.

Turn off your television

Turn Off Your Television lives up to their name. Everytime you listen to their songs, they do want to make you turn off your television or simply tune out from all the hustle and bustle of your life to relax and enjoy some great quiet folk pop rock music. This Swedish trio's sound is everything you need if you find yourself stressed and want something to soothe your overworked nerves. What's even better is that the boys offer up 12 awesome tracks all for free. It's quite a treat considering that the entire album provides one great track after another.

Box Story: Straight As The Rain EP

Box Story is actually a solo project started by Laetitia Solimando, a singer and songwriter from Belgium. Initially venturing out with just an acoustic guitar, she decided to add some moody pop elements to her sound with the help of Lhoest Renaud. The sound evolved and she was soon joined by other musicians eventually forming a band and a darker, slightly more alternative sound. Straight As The Rain EP is the third release from this somber voiced artist. Her first album, The Only Thing I'll Keep came out in 2006. It was followed by, Hard Way, in 2009 and finally this third one. These three records also chronicle Laetitia's musical transformation throughout the years; leading up to this EP's dark and moody slight rock tone.

Palette Town: Life, Love, & Laser Guns

Listening to Palette Town is like getting lost in a world where Pokemon's and quirky comic books come to life. Obviously influenced by anything and everything they fancy, their sound blends an exciting eclecticism while maintaining that childish, fun vibe. Life, Love & Laser Guns echo indie pop, garage rock and even a bit of disco dance influence. This is the latest compilation from the four piece Miami natives and it carries some great and catchy tunes worth checking out.
