Action News Team: How To Defend Yourself Against Fresh Fruit

Action News Team is as eclectic as can be with their new record, How to Defend Yourself Against Fresh Fruit. The album comes with a host of blues, rock, jazz and alternative punk sounds that seem tossed inside one giant blender and turned into a smoothie. The band hasn't been sitting idly, in fact they've released about 12 compilations and singles since last year on BandCamp. This is the latest from the roster and the second one to be featured here in the blog. You'll discover a world of boozy dance club vocals, wailing guitars as well as 70s inspired Doors vibe circling all around.

Kanoi: Arsonics

Kanoi manages to enchant and mesmerize listeners with his eclectic sound. Mixing pop, indie, folk and a tad bit of rock on there, Arsonics is an interesting record that resounds with a certain raw appeal. The man behind Kanoi is Austrian musician, Benjamin Kantschieder. He's essentially a one-man crew; playing all the instruments and doing all the vocal work. Arsonics is compilation of remastered/remixed work from previous compilations Cracks and Endlight EP.

Kori: Nightgame

Israel-born singer/songwriter Kori is a self-taught musician who enjoys experimenting between genres of rock, indie and pop music. Moreover, the artist also dabbles in photography and painting on the side. Nightgame is among his latest release. Like his previous records, he plays all of the instruments by himself. Theres a couple of genres he explores in the record but mostly his sound echoes a brooding alternative rock sound. He couples it with deep, almost one-tone vocals that add a darker mood to the tracks.

Samedi Sound System (Dub Temple Records): Duke Side A

Samedi Sound System is an Aussie duo made up of Baron Oneway and Vir Asan. The two have been staples on the Aussie club scene, spinning tracks for frenetic club goers. Duke Side A is the first record for the duo and it attempts to capture the energy they generate while pleasing gyrating and throbbing bodies in the dancefloor. The DJs spin anything from dancehall, dub to jungle music in their sets. Hence, it’s no surprise that this record echoes with various genres coalescing into each other and creating one coherent track after another. This amazing dance staple is offered for free and released under Brisbane-based independent label, Dub Temple Records.

The Local Traumatic: Demo

Although fairly new in the music scene, The Local Traumatic is steadily carving their name on the wall. With touches of indie pop and rock enveloping their sound, it's easy to get swept away by the punchy, easy listening tracks. The band hails from Charlotte, North Carolina and are made up of Julia Bullock-Vocals, Christian Spence-Guitar & Vocals, Matt McConomy-Bass and Joshua Thomas-Drums.

Floating Bear: Putting Songs to Bed

Acoustic and sporadic singer, Floating Bear releases his acoustic debut compilation. Putting Songs to Bed is a collection of tracks written between 2009 and 2011. Serving as an introspective demo, the tracks needed a home and was compiled by the singer to create this quiet and moody piece that echoes of gloomy, contemplative mornings in your bedroom flat. Incidentally, much of the tracks were recorded by the singer in his bedroom in London, March 2012.

Hella Better Dancer: Living Room

For a compilation that was recorded at home using a laptop microphone, Living Room is a pretty decent little EP. Echoing an indie female version of Cat Power or even PJ Harvey, the songs are essentially quiet yet powerful dreamy reveries. Hella Better Dancer is a UK-based four piece crew that's fairly new in the scene. Even though they emerged only a couple of years ago, their sound is well-beyond their years. This is the latest release from the band and it's the first they're offering for free download. The first two, Please Stay Here and Swimming, are both available for purchase.
