Seabright: Children of the Sun

Brandishing sweeping synths and harmonized vocals, Children of the Sun from Seabright is an airy compilation that sparkles with electronica and psychedelic pop. Seabright is the chosen moniker for San Jose, California resident, Justin Morales. This is the seventh release from the artist and it was done as a soundtrack to a hot, summer day. Although none of the tracks seem geared towards keeping you cool from the weather, it’s meant to instigate a yearning for the bright sunshine instead.

Syberia: Drawing a Future

Post-rock enthusiasts just might find a favorite in Spanish band, Syberia. Made up of Xavi Forne, Oscar Linares, Kandro Dillinger, Carlos Alonso and Oscar Caselles, these guys create a thick wall of instrumental rock that will keep you warm in the dead of winter. Gathering influences from bands like Isis, Tool, Mogwai, Mastodon and Caspian, they create a hypnotic layer of sound in each cut. Drawing a Future is the band’s debut compilation and was released last September 2012 at a name-your-price download at BandCamp.

Farmertan: Needed Would Be Nice

Making their second appearance here on the blog, Farmertan is back with their latest effort. It’s been some time between and they’ve been busy cooking up and releasing several records (about 9 compilations to be exact). This latest compilation, Needed Would Be Nice is a 9-track album released late last year.

Tiger Bones: Go Over Here

Tiger Bones is a four piece self-described “weirdo surf rock band.” They might sound “weird” but they definitely know how to catch the listener’s attention. Go Over Here is the group’s debut compilation and it’s filled with hazy vocals, some funky 70s style rock and an overall great mood.

Schizo’d Bass: Free Juke Box

Armed with an upright bass, Vincent Guerin turns up and creates unexpected, monstrous sounds. Most musicians who use the classical bass often let the tone and make of the instrument take center stage. However, with Schizo'd Bass, the instrument is subjected to different electrical devices that transform its already huge sound into something deep, mystical and at times terrifying noise. Weird and eclectic, the sound this monstrous bass creates isn't for everyone but it definitely shows the power of the age-old instrument in the hands of its master.

Samedi Sound System (Dub Temple Records): Duke Side A

Samedi Sound System is an Aussie duo made up of Baron Oneway and Vir Asan. The two have been staples on the Aussie club scene, spinning tracks for frenetic club goers. Duke Side A is the first record for the duo and it attempts to capture the energy they generate while pleasing gyrating and throbbing bodies in the dancefloor. The DJs spin anything from dancehall, dub to jungle music in their sets. Hence, it’s no surprise that this record echoes with various genres coalescing into each other and creating one coherent track after another. This amazing dance staple is offered for free and released under Brisbane-based independent label, Dub Temple Records.

Narrow Sparrow: Synthworks

Although a bit bizarre when you first listen to it, Synthworks from Narrow Sparrow grows on you over time. This short compilation is only 4-tracks long but there's enough things to dissect and check out that makes it highly entertaining. Enveloped in a hazy, spacey sound, the background music are quite random but when the singing starts, it's easy to see its charm. Narrow Sparrow comes from Chicago and is made up of Ricky, Dina and Matt.
