Bella Ruse’s Self-Titled EP – indie folk with a great girl vocal

When I first heard Bella Ruse's EP, I couldn't believe it was Creative Commons. This minimal indie folk duo have such a smooth, polished sound, it's impossible to think they're not headed for great things. Kay Gilette's rich, unique vocal sound is the foundation on which Bella Ruse's music is built, but the real magic in is the way these songs fit together to form a cohesive whole

Anois – Tree House Whispers – fragile folk-electronica album

Anois is made up of the German pair of Lars Kranholdt and Anne Baier. They describe their songs as "fragile folk-electronica," and they record their songs with instruments as varied as the guitar, melodica, fan organ, glockenspiel, and other acoustic instruments. The result is a rather introspective album that you can relax to, while giving you greater insight into their world if you really listen closely and pay attention to their lyrics. "Tree House Whispers" is a 13-track album available for free via the netlabel Aerotone. As a special bonus, if you subscribe to their newsletter, then you get another EP for free!

Josh Woodward: Only Whispering

This is an oldie-but-goody release from Josh Woodward. Praised for his melodic voice & witty lyrics Josh definitely delivers on this one. "Only Whispering" is probably the most acoustic of all seven of his albums and as he himself admits, the one most focused on storytelling. My favorite songs include "I'll Be Right Behind You, Josephine" for sweet lyrics & "East Side Bar" for its swing-like happy feeling. If you need a nice relaxing album to listen to on a quiet day - here is a perfect one for you.

Friends of the Stars: Lighting & Electrical

Friends of the Stars is a Country/Folk band from Birmingham, UK that's been together for more than 8 years now. They've released a couple of singles and brushed by some major British labels under their previous names - Buick 6 and The Toques, but their first full album - "Lighting & Electrical" - was proudly recorded and released as "Friends of the Stars". Everybody in FOTS - Craig Hamilton, Anna Russell and Cam Do-cherty - share the singing and songwriting duties and now everybody is working together on the second album.
