Lee Scratch Perry Beat Tape by Lee Perry

Lee Perry has become a stalwart in Jamaican music. Whether people recognize him or not, there's no denying that much of his work and contributions to the Jamaican musical culture are quite relevant. Perry is both a producer and a musician with much of his work becoming a big influence in ushering reggae and dub in both the local and international scene. Throughout his career, he has released quite a lot of songs as well as albums. His use of a four track recorder in contrast to the advanced equipment his contemporary producers in that time became well accepted. His clever use of samples were accompanied with a characteristic "chugging beat" which eventually became a mainstay in reggae music. Lee Scratch Perry Beat Tape is a tribute compilation to the man created by Brisbane based outfit Dub Temple Records.

Samedi Sound System (Dub Temple Records): Duke Side A

Samedi Sound System is an Aussie duo made up of Baron Oneway and Vir Asan. The two have been staples on the Aussie club scene, spinning tracks for frenetic club goers. Duke Side A is the first record for the duo and it attempts to capture the energy they generate while pleasing gyrating and throbbing bodies in the dancefloor. The DJs spin anything from dancehall, dub to jungle music in their sets. Hence, it’s no surprise that this record echoes with various genres coalescing into each other and creating one coherent track after another. This amazing dance staple is offered for free and released under Brisbane-based independent label, Dub Temple Records.

Rufio: For Lights

Combining hip hop with his signature dub and synth style, Sacramento native, Rufio definitely delivers a different kind of vibe with his compilation. Better known as Ru [are you,] For Lights is the first compilation from the artist. It was initially conceived as a record that hopes to capture and explore the different facets of beauty in life. However, the album transformed over time and the artist decided to create it as a sort of story; "Almost like a soundtrack to a movie that hasn’t been produced yet," he relates.
