Software

Spinrilla

Spinrilla is called the 800 pound gorilla of free mixtapes, and that’s exactly what it is. There may be other apps designed like this on the iOS, but in terms of features and content there’s nothing like it. Though the app doesn’t have a lot of fancy features, it’s more than capable, and it’s easy to use.

Shareit

Shareit from Lenovo Shareit Technologies is a file sharing app, and while it’s not the first and won’t be the last, this is one of the most popular owing to its reliability. Sending files over the web can be slow at times, and that’s not even taking into account the device incompatibility problems. With this app, sharing between different smartphones and desktop PCs is made easy.

OpenTeacher

OpenTeacher is an open source application that makes it easier to learn a new language. Basically what the application does is allow you to produce tests that will help you master your foreign language skills, and while similar programs do exist, OpenTeacher is entirely free.

BCast

BCast from Full Circle Geo Social Network provides you with the means to broadcast live streaming videos from the web, TV or mobile, both to and from. Designed as a social media app and a full blown broadcasting tool, the app makes it easy to set up your own BCast channel and broadcast, or you can browse the ones available.

Periscope

Periscope is an app that lets you stream live video anywhere in the world on your mobile device. Courtesy of Twitter Inc., Periscope makes it easy to transmit video in bite sized sessions, and you can even save them on replay for later viewing. Everything from live events to friends engaged in fun activities can be streamed here, taking social interaction to another level.

Insta3D

Insta3D by Speed 3D allows you to turn selfies into animated cartoon avatars of yourself, so if you’ve ever wanted to have a cartoony avatar, this free app is what you’re looking for. While this isn’t the first avatar creator for the iOS and Android, there are features here worth checking out.

Krita

Krita is an image editing application, but before you dismiss this as just another GIMP knockoff, it isn’t. While it has all the basic tools you’d expect, it also comes with several features that make image manipulation and photo editing easier such as multiple masks per layer, color history, clone layers and more.

Subtitle Edit

If you watch a lot of movies you’ll notice that in many cases the subtitles are not in sync or just completely wrong. In that case you might want to use a program like Subtitle Edit, an open source application that does exactly that, edit and correct movie subtitles.
