Battle Circus

Exploding performances and complex, ambitious arrangements pretty much describe Battle Circus. Originally from New Zealand, the band has relocated to the US in 2010 to focus in spreading their sound and touring the continent. No strangers to the festival circuit, the boys have also performed plenty of awesome sets in support of Amanda Palmer and Gary Numan. This self-titled record carries 10 progressive cuts including two remastered tracks from their debut EP, The Half Light Symphony.

Hypatia Lake: Ouroboros

It's easy to spot which iconic rock band has inspired much of Hypatia Lake's' sound. From the magnificent dirty guitars, those shouty vocals and a dark, sinister vibe; Ouraboros channels quite a bit of Sabbath and Led Zeppelin in its tracks. Hailing from Seattle, Ouroboros is the fourth record from the crew. It's a concept album of sorts as the band has created unique tracks that revolve around the epic battles and excursion of protagonist, Rose Marie. Serving as a nice throwback to 70s rock and expansive concept records, the album flourishes and entices listeners to enter into its sonic landscape.

Sudden Death of Stars: EP

Exuding folky shoegaze 70s style rock is something these Rennes septet is very good at. Sudden Death of Stars carry a hypnotizing sound that's great to wake up to on a lazy Saturday morning. This is their first EP and it contains 5-tracks recorded and released back in 2010. Employing old school instruments, analog recording and an ethereal psychedelic vibe, the album is a lush soundscape filled with interesting bits to please listeners. Apart from this, the boys have released a new record which should be up on the blog as well.

Balthazar B and the Beatitudes: I am the Tide

A moniker for Paris-based folk songwriter, Balthazar B is Alex Dowding, alongside with the Beatitudes which is an ever changing, ramshackle collection of surrealists, doctors, geeks, religious scholars and of course, rock and roll enthusiasts. I am the Tide is a lo-fi collection of storytelling folk music. It is accompanied by a selection of musicians and also samples solo acoustic acts.

Fear Report: Pandemic

Judging from the band’s name itself, Fear Report, you could already get a glimpse of what kind of music they have to offer. Fear Report is honest, straightforward, emotional and most of all delivers a 90s rock feel that is rare in today’s scene and genre. Their unique sound comes mainly from their diverse musical influences. From post-hardcore to metal edge to grunge to indie and alternative, this is what Fear Report is. Your ordinary five man rock band but has always something new to bring to the table.

Diamond Youth: Don’t Lose Your Cool

A remnant from the bygone era of 90s alternative pop rock, Diamond Youth would've have stood comfortably alongside bands like Jimmy Eat World. Don't Lose Your Cool rolls in with a bunch of catchy indie alternative tracks that resemble an awesome college radio playlist. You'd never guess it from their current sound but the members of the Baltimore crew came from hardcore bands, Trapped Under Ice and Down To Nothing. They're currently making waves with their brand of quieter yet catchy sound with this compilation.

His Statue Falls: Collisions Remixed

His Statue Falls is a unique band in that they combine various genres to weed out their own characteristic sound. Mixing techno, screamo, pop and breakdowns; the German group dubbed their sound as "techcore." Music catches on fast and soon they were playing at more than 150 shows and other groups started to create a similar sound. Not to be deterred, the band pushed forward and continue to mold their music according to their taste. Collisions Remixed is based off their debut record and contains a spin off of some of their best tracks from the album.

Haujobb: Let’s Drop Bombs

Sounding like you just stepped inside a Rob Zombie discotheque, Haujobb is a cool band that definitely knows their way around haunting industrialtechno music. Let's Drop Bombs contains 9 upbeat tracks that feature a vast array of electronic rock and alternative touches throughout. Made up of Dejan Samardzic (arrangements, production,) Daniel Myer (arrangements, vocals) and Manuel g. Richter (synths, noises, drums) joins them for live performances; the album is one masterful record that deserves a pedestal.
