Count Your Lucky Stars: YLS Sampler #4

Count Your Lucky Stars is an independent label that has been releasing music from local rock bands. This Michgan-based label has compiled a huge sampler containing 21 tracks from various bands and musicians. Most of the cuts feature a rock/indie rock vibe that definitely delivers some of the best rhythms you can find around. The record contains music from Empire! Empire!, The Reptilian, Penfold, Boris Smile, Mountains for Clouds and so much more.

Knoxband: Emerging From The Shadows

For a mere side project, Knoxband easily impresses with its eerie and quiet electronic/post rock/diy touch. Spearheaded by Vru Patel, the outfit first came out back in 2005. Combining a host of musical influences, the album is filled with a variety of genres; all packed into a tight, sonically pleasing sound that easily lets listeners drift into the unknown world.

Limited Fanfare Records Spring Summer Sampler 2013

Compiling some of the best rock and indie rock acts around, Limited Fanfare Records is a hub for artists looking to build themselves up through their music and talent. Fostering a process of cultivation instead of instant success, the Florida based record company has been delivering great musicians who are masters of their craft.

Pilot Rouge: Helen of Troy

Sometimes, all we want is a fitting return to the easy-to-listen pop rock, where we thank the Greek gods above for bands such as Pilot Rouge. Formed just this 2013, the three-member act, comprised of vocalist Kevin Terry, guitarist Max Welshinger, and keyboardist Allison Louise, pay homage to the mother of all chaos – Helen of Troy – as muse for their debut EP of the same name.

Uncommon Ground: Lifted! The EP

Composed of Darius Mines, and accompanied by Rivers Taylor and Clarence Cartwright, Uncommon Ground’s Lifted EP is a great r&b collection released on April 2013. Their voices are very soothing, which makes this album very hard to ignore.

Clockwork: Clockwork EP

Detroit's Clockwork aims to bring back a little bit of 90s punk in today's music scene. It's too early to tell if they'll become successful at this but their sound is quite promising. Made up of Jimmy Lawson, Mike Walsh, Dj Liden, and Nick Kucway; Clockwork EP is a straightforward four track compilation from the group. This serves as a follow-up to their first EP, aptly named "Self-Titled." Steering away from the Blink 182 type of punk rock and into a deeper, darker and overall, more hardcore punk style; the band is slowly paving their own way in the indie music scene.

The Zombie Dandies

Short, loud and energetic are the best words to describe this raucous EP from The Zombie Dandies. These two Frenchmen are obviously fans of the Motley Crue-era punk rock. Creating this nice, fast paced combo of guitars and vocals; the EP is a great picker-upper if you’re feeling like a sleepy head.

Cleft: Whale Bone

Try to imagine a fourteen minute song made by a drum machine and then try to compress it into a three minute soundtrack. That is what Cleft is. A 2-piece turbo-progressive band that makes massive instrumental music using guitars and some drums.

SpinTunes #5: Round 4

There is nothing more jam-packed than an album collaborated by various artists. With only one track per musician, there is no room for remixes, experiments, and cutting room floor for fillers - just pure, unpretentious music. SpinTunes #5: Round 4 is a collection of song entries for the SpinTunes songwriting contest by SpinTown. The challenge is to write a two-minute song for this photo within eight days. The product is an album of thirteen tracks that expands from acoustic rock, theatrical piano, to electro ambient.
