Rachel Platten: Noisetrade Sampler

Never mind the hipsters. There is a compelling reason why pop’s still everyone’s guilty pleasure: it’s that darn infectious. Take the case of Rachel Platten, for example. She edges out Vanessa Carlton by a margin on the singer-songwriter genre by upping the tempo and feel of her offerings, most of them landing her on the soundtracks of various movies and TV series. Nevertheless, the songstress has earned that revered indie cred while keeping her musicality intact.

Noelle Ricci: In The Tapestry

In the Tapestry is the debut album of Noelle Ricci. According to Ricci’s Bandcamp post, this album is “about all constant emotions of fear, anxiety, and love that we face through our lives.” And this collection did not disappoint. The first few minutes of this track is addictively insane. Clutter will surprise you because it so unlike the usual pop tunes. Ricci’s voice is soulful but with a sharp edge that makes the track more powerful.

Fingers of the Sun

Fingers of the Sun‘s 2011 self-titled release pays tribute to the well-loved sea, sand, and uneven tan lines. Hailing from Denver, this psych pop band is composed of Suzi Allegra, Nathan Brasil, Jamie Bryant, Fez Garcia, Marcus the Snail, and Meghan Wilson.

Kyler England: Noisetrade Sampler

Kyler England walks down new territories in this new Noisterade sampler that features ten tracks of tasteful pop electronica. She also has toured opening for Sting, Annie Lennox, and Kelly Clarkson.

Karma Tree: Always Near

A ‘Karma Tree’ is springing up, and it offers a lot of goodies. Swedish band Karma Tree is serving us up a plateful of tunes (really, a stunning 13 tracks) via its latest release, Always Near. They’re keeping it fairly simple with a squeaky-clean brand of experimental pop-rock — both accessible and eclectic at the same time.

March of the Real Fly: March of the Real Fly EP

Get those ukuleles up in the air, ‘cause we’re going with the ‘march of the real fly’! The Sydney-based band, who upholds their music as folk and punk, are put to the litmus test in their second, self-titled effort. Bringing a whole lot of attitude, organ-playing, raw drums, and plain trippiness, we can safely say that March of the Real Fly is a bonafide mix of fun.

Bess Rogers: Songs Other People Wrote

Brooklyn native Rogers, who, if not moonlighting as a vocal buddy to Ingrid Michaelson, is crafting her own magnificent tunes. Her independent efforts date back to 2007, but she’s now going for the kill — nope, not jumping the shark — as she astounds us with this 4-track cover EP.

Monster Rally: Return to Paradise

Monster Rally is not just a sound, it’s a movement. Return to Paradise aims to grow past the comforts of traditional hiphop, creating an organic musical whole from little bits and pieces of various genres.
