The Freak Fandango Orchestra: Tales Of A Dead Fish

Making their second appearance here in Frostclick, the gypsy folk, Barcelona band are back with a new record. The Freak Fandango Orchestra is an energetic and quirky bunch of musicians who like to play fun and unusual music. Their first record Love, Death and a Drunken Monkey was entertaining and came doused with beautiful instrument work and amusing lyrics. For their latest release, Tales of a Dead Fish, they retain their crazy upbeat sound, still incorporating humor, superb instrument work and a very catchy beat to every single one of their cuts.

Badluck: Infinity

Another release from the longstanding netlabel, blocSonic, is this cool hip hop compilation from BADLUCK. Hailing from Bed Stuy, this is the first solo record from the artist. He originally makes up one half of the crew, Luck & Ripps, which also released their debut album The Catastrophic Connection, on the netlabel back in 2009. This time around BADLUCK is on his own; giving listeners a sneak peek of his upcoming solo album. Infinity is a record that showcases the artists capacity to mix old school hip hop with modern hip hop; creating a seamless, catchy bunch of tracks that's easy on the ears.

The Colorful Quiet: My World With You EP

The Colorful Quiet is a one-man band manned by Stephen K. Webster. He handles both the guitars and vocals; performing beautiful strip down tracks that are both impressive and endearing. My World With You - EP might be a short 5-track compilation but it's enough to convince any acoustic folk pop lover that this one is worth keeping. The artist has released several compilation under his name since 2001. In fact, this short EP is the first one he ever came out with. Most of the short compilations are offered for free but the full albums are often available for a short (but definitely worth it) price.

Stefano Mocini: A Cat Playing

If you are looking for a soulful, rich, and inspiring instrumental sounds that will help to smooth out your day, then we have something just for you. Stefano Mocini's A Cat Playing is one of the most melodious piano only compilations I have stumbled upon in a long time. With each track outperforming the previous one, A Cat Playing is one of the few albums where pin pointing the favorite song is nearly impossible; even after few long listens. The melodies brilliantly flow and connect each of the tracks; and all this is managed with just a single instrument.

Dylan Pratt: Lifters & Leaners

It's always exciting to stumble upon a record that you know will be a part of your daily music routine for a long while. Dylan Pratt and his album, Lifters & Leaners, is one of those records. The album is a first for the singer/songwriter. Armed with an acoustic guitar, a soft and melodic voice along with beautiful lyrics; the album is the perfect capper after a long hard day at work. It also features quite a few guest musicians helping him complete the songs. Much of the record is composed of sweet, acoustic classic folk. So expect this album to be your perfect companion on dreary days, when all you want to do is cuddle in the comfort of your bed or maybe stay-in and enjoy a quiet evening.

Snowmine: Laminate Pet Animal

Seldom do you encounter a band that has a distinct music palette, but Snowmine delivers more than that. Released last May 3, Laminate Pet Animal is made up of nine genre-bending tracks that live up to the band's eclectic music. Hailing from Brooklyn, the five piece collective composed of Grayson Sanders, Austin Mendenhall, Alex Beckmann, Jay Goodman and Calvin Pia have captured the attention of culture bloggers with their beautifully-arranged music. The kind of music that reminds you of The Smiths and the Yeasayer.

Rozwell Kid: The Rozwell Kid LP

Rozwell Kid is the brainchild of Jordan Hudkins, a drummer from the band The Demon Beat. For this LP, he took a break from his drumming and tried out his hand at creating alternative electro noise pop. Listening to it now, it seems he's stumbled onto something here. This is his first foray into the solo route and it's proving a success. The Rozwell Kid LP comes with 10 tracks and one bonus single. According to the artist, his goal for the album was "to create the kind of music I love listening to, release it into the wild, and hope it finds an audience who can relate to my passion for thick, noisy power-pop.”

The Miracals: Hermosa (EP)

If you miss the days of surfer rock music, rest assured, you'll be able to relive the nostalgia as you listen to The Miracals. (Yes, their name spelling is a bit weird but their music is quite pleasant.) All four members are college students from Southern California. They initially called themselves, "The Smiles" but for some reason changed it to The Miracals. They like to describe their music as "beach rock" or the more quirky "tropical grunge," gathering influence from one of the bands that shaped the genre, The Beach Boys. Hermosa EP is a nice compilation that screams of summer fun. Even in the dead of winter, it's perfect for bringing some sunshine to dreary mornings.
