I’m Dirty Too: The Downhill Dive

When you put on I’m Dirty Too, you wouldn’t think there’s only two people behind the music. Duo Zac Brown and drummer Jess Gowrie make up the whole band. Hailing from Sacramento, California; the pair first met in 2002 but it wasn’t until 2009 when they got together to start playing music. After unsuccessfully looking for possible bassists and vocalists, they’ve decided to retain their status as a duo. That decision might be the best thing they’ve made music-wise, The Downhill Dive contains solid rock tracks that will make The White Stripes step up the game a bit.

Aaahh Records Presents The Braaahhlitz Compilation

For the last two years, the Aaahh Record's crew gathered up several musicians and holed up in a small town called Bralitz (somewhere in Berlin.) With nothing but music, plenty of time and some fresh air, they've been creating wonderful music and have been churning them out in little compilations like this one. This Braaahhlitz Compilation is the result of last year's mini gathering. It's comprised of 8 tracks filled with guitars, flutes, a whole lot of handclaps and just simple music that makes your hearts flutter or gather up that book and curl up in the corner.

Bitch Brigade: Pastel Aggressive

Although the label that released this gem is no longer active, Crunch Pod did leave quite a few awesome compilations to check out. Pastel Agressive from talented electronic maven, Bitch Brigade is one of these albums left behind. Consisting of experimental synth pop with added girly rock and pop vocals, the album is the perfect soundtrack to a laid back dance club night out.

PunkANation: The State of Mind on the Violent Side

If you listen through this album, you'd be hard pressed to believe that PunkANation is simply a one-man project. Truth is that, it is. The man behind all that noise and punk rockin' goodness is Ashwin Rao. Obviously, he has a very special affinity for punk rock. The State of Mind on the Violent Side is, according to him, still under the mixing and mastering process. However, for those who love the gritty sound of DIY music, he's put it up for free download. The album is a 10-track compilation that should be considered one of the best punk rock finds for the year. It's raw, dirty, traditional and absolutely awesome!

Shipwrek: Journal

With nothing but a short sentence stated on his website "about" section, Journal by Shipwrek is as mysterious as it is engaging. Aiming to capture those fleeting moments and translate them into a gorgeous mix of beats, synths and rhythm; Journal manages to create a rich landscape of sound that listeners can easily get lost in. The man behind Shipwrek is Jason Siegler. His fascination with capturing his day to day existence into sound initially started as a simple project but quickly evolved into a complex set of recordings that throb and pulse with energy as well as life.
