OKAPI SUN: OKAPI SUN

Turn up the volume and bathe in tribal dance tunes with OKAPI SUN‘s self-titled debut release. The group is named after the Okapia johnstoni, a giraffid artiodactyl mammal native to the Ituri Rainforest which decorates itself with its different stripes to become one with its surrounding. Just like the said animal, OKAPI SUN’s sound is described as a cut and paste of their past, their present, and their own culture and soul.

Kira Velella: Daughter

Bask your soul in summer breeze and rain showers with Kira Velella‘s debut EP Daughter. Packed with six tracks, this sampler plate gives us a sneak peak to the New York-based singer/songwriter’s raw craftsmanship.

P.R.: Moment In Time

Aiming to bring you the freshest talent from around the world, Cult Classic Records (CCR) serves us P.R.’s Moment In Time. Pedram Rouzbehani, better known as “P.R.”, is a Sydney-based producer who translates his love for music, life experiences, and cultural upribringing into tasteful sonic offerings. Drawing inspiration from his environment, P.R. describes his sound as “feel good music” that fuses multiple genres of current and past trends. His musical influences include DJ Premier, Nujabes, Kanye West, and Alchemist, to name a few.

Brittany Campbell: Black Summer

Brittany Campbell's "Black Summer" is her second collection of self-produced bangers. The album is a simple yet enjoyable, as it takes us on a whirlwind journey of love songs, break-up diss-downs, and self-empowerment affirmations -- all presented in a funky format.

Glad Town Ghosts: Northwards Over Your Home (Single)

Technically, this entry from newcomer Glad Town Ghosts is not an EP but a single (with the traditional B-sides included), but it’s really amazing that we’re compelled to include it anyway. Recently signed with Massive Skull Records, the band is the brain fart of Dale Husband, with “occasional company” thrown in, as he says on his page. Regardless who he’s with, we absolutely think that his first release Northwards Over Your Home is a fantastic one.

Kirsten Wenlock: 1963

Hop on the time machine with Kirsten Wenlock’s 60s inspired album titled 1963. The songstress treats the listeners with covers of memorable tracks from the said year, where musical wonders like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Little Stevie Wonder put out their first releases.

Wynter Gordon: Doleo

To paraphrase Ned Stark’s prediction, “Wynter is coming.” Wynter Gordon, that is. After releasing her debut album, the underrated gem With The Music I Die, in 2011, the singer-songwriter is currently busy with her Human Condition EP series, the first of which is last year’s Doleo.

swelo: Escalator Music

Boasting a dynamism often missing these days, swelo‘s latest musical release titled Escalator Music is a curious amalgam of folk and modern musings. Released last August 2013, the New Orleans-based band features a hefty 12-track collection that delivers a feel good musical experience.
