Derek Clegg: Overlook The Human Race

No stranger to the pages of the Frostclick blog, Chicago-native, Derek Clegg is here to showcase his latest musical effort. Overlook The Human Race is a beautiful compilation that delivers Clegg's resident acoustic guitars and heartfelt vocals. The album contains 11-tracks and is album number 9 or so for the artist. If there's one thing the artist has mastered throughout the years, it's the capacity to deliver a catchy tune even with the simplest arrangements. Filled with midtempo acoustic pop cuts with a sprinkling of folk here and there, this is a beautiful record worth noting.

Waysayer: Mornings

Rest your head above the clouds and listen to Waysayer’s soft serenade. Mornings is an album composed of six tracks released on December 2012. Take a couple of deep breaths and dive in to the first track on this album. Breath In is a piece marvelously played with Waysayer’s guitar prowess.

Tall Tall Trees: Moment

When it comes to indie folk, you probably have a long list of them on your music player. However, Mike Savino aka Tall Tall Trees delivers a different kind of indie folk, one infused with a bit of blues and a whole lot of soul. This banjo player has been mesmerizing audiences with his brand of indie music for some time. He has released two albums under his belt, a self-titled debut (2009) and this one, Moment (2012.) Armed with an epic banjo technique that goes through loopers, effects et al.; you can bet you'd never see a banjo played like this before.

SpinTunes #5: Round 4

There is nothing more jam-packed than an album collaborated by various artists. With only one track per musician, there is no room for remixes, experiments, and cutting room floor for fillers - just pure, unpretentious music. SpinTunes #5: Round 4 is a collection of song entries for the SpinTunes songwriting contest by SpinTown. The challenge is to write a two-minute song for this photo within eight days. Shakey Graves is the moniker of Texas based singer, Alejandro Rose-Garcia. This is his debut compilation and from the sound of things, it's setting him up for a bright future. His vocals, coupled with his expert guitar picking makes the songs delightful and entertaining.

Don't be fooled by the stripped down and raw sound emanating from your players. It's just Ogre Melodies. Combining an indie, acoustic rock and even a hint of gypsy/weird folk on there, the short compilation injects plenty of fun to the genre.

Carsie Blanton: Ain’t So Green

Before Carsie Blanton‘s Buoy and Idiot Heart, let’s backtrack to the singer/songwriter’s first musical effort entitled Ain’t So Green. Based in New Orleans, Carsie has made a name for herself touring with Shawn Colvin, Joan Osborne, The Weepies, and Loudon Wainwright III, among others.
