The album is a very low key folk record that's perfect for bundling up beside the fireplace on a cold, winter day. This 10 track album is only one of several compilations already released by the artist. Although the songs are quite simple, there's a certain mysterious aura that circles most of the tracks. It's this beauty that makes the album worth listening to over and over again. Play it as background music as you read or as you work, it's certainly a wonderful piece to complement your day.

Daniel Wyckoff is a guitar aficionado that has just released his second record of nothing but sweet acoustic guitar goodness for free. His second album, A Shift, is available as a free download on Jamendo. Before that though, he released The Quadrature which feature a lite-prog and math rock sound. The recording quality isn't perfect but you have to admire this guy's skill and what he can do with his guitar.

The Great Mundane: This Is So You

Couple of days ago I came across The Great Mundane (Jeffrey Acciaioli) while browsing through the line-up for the largest urban festival in N. America, Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, WA that is. And what a great reintroduction it was! This superb Portland based musician has already established himself as one of the top beat making giants in the West Coast who, more recently, have also blessed his fans with an entirely free, full of twisted musical textures, hip hop beats and luscious synthesizers, 6-track EP titled This Is So You. Frozen Geese is made up of instrumentalists, Dave Lazonby and Graham Baily. Hailing from Leeds, UK, the duo is bent in energizing their listeners with their brand of psychedelic electronic rock. Their sound is both rough and smooth at the same time; providing listeners with a real treat for their senses. The Starseed is their first full record and was released in cassette only back in 2010. It might be weird and unusual to release their compilation in a format that's considered obsolete by many. Luckily, the duo couldn't stop the buzz around their music. They've finally made the record available as a digital download giving plenty of online music lovers a chance to hear this amazing album.

My Foolish Heart is a beautiful acoustic, alternative pop rock duo that was initially formed back in 2007. They started out doing covers of anything from Buddy Holly to Britney's Toxic and now they've finally branched out to release their own tracks. Sootiness, Sonsy Girl is their latest compilation. It's a beautiful mixture of melodies, acoustic guitars, vocal harmonies that's intertwined with a reflective, laid-back mood. Most of the songs were recorded with as minimal use of technology as possible. Opting instead for a cleaner, more raw performance by playing instruments that resound with an orchestra feel rather than electronics. Certainly, a nice album to retreat to.

UK based video game netlabel, Pterodactyl, has finally made what most geek indie rock fanboys and fangirls' dream of without realizing it, a Weezer cover album done in 8-bit! This 14 track record consists of nothing but the best cuts from the gods of geek rock. Main difference is that instead of Cuomo and crew's usual chops, it's the 8-bit sound that dominates. If you love Weezer and video games, this is one record you shouldn't miss out on. It's a quirky take on some of the best Weezer singles out there, done by some of the best "chiptune talents" the label has to offer.
