And the time of the year came again to share with all of you the best of 2013 FrostWire features. From blues, to pop, electronic, hiphop and rap comes 12 of our favorite tracks from our favorite artists. Last year over 294,000 of you downloaded our Mixtape Vol. 3 – this year lets take those numbers even higher, because the great musicians behind this compilation certainly deserve some love.

Rachel Platten: Noisetrade Sampler

Never mind the hipsters. There is a compelling reason why pop’s still everyone’s guilty pleasure: it’s that darn infectious. Take the case of Rachel Platten, for example. She edges out Vanessa Carlton by a margin on the singer-songwriter genre by upping the tempo and feel of her offerings, most of them landing her on the soundtracks of various movies and TV series. Nevertheless, the songstress has earned that revered indie cred while keeping her musicality intact.

Glow and The Forest

Glow and the Forest is an indie pop group that's made up of Micah Gettys, David White and Matthew Guay. This self-titled debut EP is their first foray as a group and it clearly offers something interesting to their listeners. Echoing a bit of the dreamy harmonies of The Shins with the quirkiness of The Flaming Lips, the trio is successfully setting themselves apart with their sound. Combining nice harmonies and great instruments, the album provides a nice little getaway for anybody willing to listen.

Kesang Marstrand: Hello Night

Kesang Marstrand, a Tibetan-Danish singer, is a native of Woodstock, New York. She is an unusually gifted singer and composer that writes eloquent and emotional sketches. Marstrand reinterpreted Tunisia’s national anthem and for weeks, the version was broadcasted several times a day both on local television and radio stations. Her inspirations include Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Elliot Smith.

Caleb Groh: Down, Dakota!

Teeming with sweet folk goodness, Down, Dakota! is Galeb Groh‘s October 2011 release. The collection features four tracks that define Caleb as a melodic folk musician. He won the Boston Music Award for Folk Artist of the Year 2012.

Josh Ritter: 2013 Noisetrade Sampler

The name Josh Ritter might ring a lot of bells. He’s been featured on almost every imaginable soundtrack album, as well as various television and movie scores (the unreleased ones), which warrant this 2013 Noisetrade Sampler a deserved listen.

Diamond Nights: Irrational Fears

It was really unexpected of Diamond Nights to concoct a beautiful combination of the acoustic and ambient genres, but when they did, boy, it was magic. The Melbourne-based band are bringing grit to their second EP release, Irrational Fears, a superbly raw affair released just this year.
