Summers in India are known to be very hot and humid, as the scorching sun makes your clothes cling to your sticky sweet skin. Good thing there is music like Sarah McGowan’s that feel like running an ice cube all over your skin. Her soothing music is a welcome relief when it becomes a little too hot to your liking.
It seems that lo-fi is the route that many bands have been taking. After all, indie recording isn’t that much of a foreign as it used to be with the many recording apps and equipment within the reach of anyone who dreams of having a band. Not to mention that there are many studios out there who welcome up and coming bands into their recording booths.
Straight out of Ottawa, Canada is the four-member band, Thrifty Kids. Composed of Dylan Frankland (guitar), Cam Alford (bass), Jordan Gauthier (drums), and Sarah Cogan (vocals), the band has made waves in their hometown and aims to create the same rippling effect outside their home turf with the release of their self-titled album.
There is always something to be admired about musicians who dive into the industry as a solo act yet able to present a layered and strong output. Case in point, Flat Swamp aka Theo Hartlett. But throughout the years, Hartlett’s endeavors have blossomed into a full band composed of other members Morgan Luzzi, Jesse Weiss and Kyle Kearney.
Patrick Jeffords aka Kid Trails is no newbie in the music industry. In fact, he has played for some of his popular and talented friends. He plays bass for the live band of dreamy indie electronic king Toro Y Moi. He also lent his talents to Painted Palms and hangs out with Chromeo. As a prolific solo act, he has been hashing out one project after the other.
