Derek Clegg: Overlook The Human Race

No stranger to the pages of the Frostclick blog, Chicago-native, Derek Clegg is here to showcase his latest musical effort. Overlook The Human Race is a beautiful compilation that delivers Clegg's resident acoustic guitars and heartfelt vocals. The album contains 11-tracks and is album number 9 or so for the artist. If there's one thing the artist has mastered throughout the years, it's the capacity to deliver a catchy tune even with the simplest arrangements. Filled with midtempo acoustic pop cuts with a sprinkling of folk here and there, this is a beautiful record worth noting.

Clockwork: Clockwork EP

Detroit's Clockwork aims to bring back a little bit of 90s punk in today's music scene. It's too early to tell if they'll become successful at this but their sound is quite promising. Made up of Jimmy Lawson, Mike Walsh, Dj Liden, and Nick Kucway; Clockwork EP is a straightforward four track compilation from the group. This serves as a follow-up to their first EP, aptly named "Self-Titled." Steering away from the Blink 182 type of punk rock and into a deeper, darker and overall, more hardcore punk style; the band is slowly paving their own way in the indie music scene.

CHIEF: Tribute to Chick Corea

For those a little too young to know who Chick Corea is, this record might help you gain a bit of appreciation for the jazz legend. He's a fusion pianist, keyboardist and composer that has been a stalwart figure in the world of modern jazz. This 10-track tribute compilation offers a beautiful remix of some of Chick's most notable tracks, spun and remixed by Swiss beat maker, Chief. All of the tracks are instrumental and are crafted to be oh so pleasing to the ears. Whether you're a jazz fan or not, if you appreciate good quality, easy listening music; you'll find something to love in this record.

Bit Laden: Tienes Sida (EP2)

Bit Laden is a Barcelona-based crew that specializes in creating funky electronic music with fun 8-bit elements. Made up of Joey Zeke Stolen on guitars, Gumbel - on "little buttons" and Elas Fraguas; the trio creates a set of cuts that introduces several elements. Tienes Sida (EP2) is quite short but it's enough to give listeners a good feel for the band's music. The EP contains four tracks that abound in electronica, arcade sounds and a whole mix of genres in the mix.

Eva on the Western Castle Island: The Wong Way EP

Eva on the Western Castle Island might not be the most catchy band name out there but it is charming especially when it's accompanied by great music. This simple record is more than just indie pop. It's a lush compilation that warms up the thought and squeezes some melodies out of your bones during those cold winter days. The band is made up of lead singer, Eva Wong, joined by assist Eero Vesterinen, guitarist Ilkka Saarinen as well as drummer Martin Linnankoski. Together, they create a sound that incorporates fun pop sensibilities and a bit of that rockish vibe.

The Zombie Dandies

Short, loud and energetic are the best words to describe this raucous EP from The Zombie Dandies. These two Frenchmen are obviously fans of the Motley Crue-era punk rock. Creating this nice, fast paced combo of guitars and vocals; the EP is a great picker-upper if you’re feeling like a sleepy head.

AstroLust: Illusions

Illusions is a world where only beats, rhythm and dub matter. Created by Dominic H. Francisco aka AstroLust, the album throbs and teases with various triphop dub sounds. There's really not that much info about the artist available online but one thing's for sure, his capacity to capture this cool and dark atmosphere by manipulating samples, synths and instruments is praiseworthy. This is the fourth release from the artist since June 2012 and it seems listeners can expect some more until the year ends.

Tall Tall Trees: Moment

When it comes to indie folk, you probably have a long list of them on your music player. However, Mike Savino aka Tall Tall Trees delivers a different kind of indie folk, one infused with a bit of blues and a whole lot of soul. This banjo player has been mesmerizing audiences with his brand of indie music for some time. He has released two albums under his belt, a self-titled debut (2009) and this one, Moment (2012.) Armed with an epic banjo technique that goes through loopers, effects et al.; you can bet you'd never see a banjo played like this before.
