Icarus – A Star’s Journey is the latest from Playside Team, and it’s a unique one. It’s a “jumper” game where your goal is to guide a fallen star back up where it belongs. What set this apart from the rest is that it combines the need for fast reflexes with a certain kind of serenity owing to the graphics and music.
Controls are simple touch and drag: you tap and drag to power up and then release, kind of like a pinball game. As Icarus goes up, there will be obstacles in the way, but good thing for casual gamers is they’re not as difficult as those in other jumper style games. If you’re playing this for the first time, try to keep moving smoothly to avoid getting hit.
Even if you do get struck by the obstacles, chances are you will just get bounced around. The only time you will be killed for certain is if you’re moving too fast. Another thing you have to remember is that you have a finite amount of energy, so make sure you get to the next checkpoint so you can recharge and continue.
The challenge in Icarus is progressing as far as possible while balancing the need to move fast without getting waylaid. It’s an easy game to get into, and the graphics are among the most impressive of its kind, beautiful and sublime at the same time. It’s a different mobile game, and for that alone worth trying.
