Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links by Konami is a mobile card game based on the popular anime, and if you watch the show you’ll recognize a lot of familiar elements. But even if you have no idea what Yu-Gi-Oh! is about, you’ll have no trouble getting into this. If you have played mobile card games before, the mechanics are similar so you can plunge in quickly.
When the game starts, you have to choose between Seto Kaiba and Yugi Moto, and once you’ve decided you’ll get access to their respective deck. There are phases you have to go through and exit prior to ending a turn. All the phases are explained so you’ll know what to do even if you’re unfamiliar with the characters.
Every game commences with a coin toss to decide which player goes first. When it’s your turn, tap a card to draw, and tap to view. Drag the card to use it and you’ll see options for magic, traps, monsters, etc. As the game goes on and you acquire higher level cards, the more magic and monsters you’ll be able to summon.
Controls are intuitive. When at the Battle Phase for instance, you just drag your finger from your card to the card you want to attack. If you want to see the actual effects, just tap the card you’re using. Apart from the main objectives, there are also side missions that will award you with keys and gems you can use to advance in the game.
The biggest attraction in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links is collecting the cards, and the gems you get from side missions can be used to buy card packs, increasing its playability. S far as card games go, this is one of the better ones out there.
