Lightshot is a Google Chrome extension that makes it easy to capture any element on your screen. Most screen capture tools today are packed with too many features that they’ve become hard to use, but this handy utility from app.prnscr.com comes with editing and sharing options that are simple to use. You can save those screen captures, copy to the clipboard or print them too.
Depending on what version of Lightshot you installed, it will either be an extension for Chrome or sit as an icon on the System Tray, and the application allows you to use your keyboard’s PrtScrn key for even easier access. When the program is active there’s a semi transparent layer over screen, and you use this to select the area you want to capture.
You just drag the layer and scale to the size you want, and once you’ve taken the screenshot you’ll be taken to the editing area. Here you can use a pen to draw freehand, add text, lines, add rectangles and so on, handy if you want to jot down ideas about the screen capture. There’s also an undo button if you make a mistake.
If you want to highlight specific areas of the screen you captured, use the marker tool, and when you’re done you can either save in any of the popular image formats, or share it on social media by using the tools at the bottom of the screen. Any way you look at it, Lightshot is an impressive screen capture utility that does everything you want.
