Music indeed runs in the family as proven by Montreal experimental artist NikTex in The Power of Yang. Daughter of Joseph Texidor, a popular jazz percussionist, NikTex is a force to reckon with on her own with her refreshing take on ambient – electro genre.
NikTex, real name Nicole Texidor’s, debut album is an outstanding release. Propelled by a grant she received from the Canada Council for the Arts, the album is an eclectic display of multi-layered sounds coupled by her hypnotic vocals.
Irrationalities exude a tropical ambiance, a beach goddess urging you to try “midnight breeze by the sea.” The easy flowing guitars and breezy vocals can easily transport you into a hammock by the ocean.
Definitely Lazy is a folkish mantra with soothing vibes. It perfectly blends sound effects, synths and quality lyrics. The thing with NikTex is that she is able to make new sounds easily adaptable to the ears. Nothing is too much or too sparse. Her dynamic and theatrical music all come together in an album that is unique and creative.
For those who want to add a new name to their list of artists similar to Lianne LaHavas or Laura Mvula, NikTex is out to impress you.
