The Collectables is an action card battler game where you’ll lead a group of renegades to battle a mysterious force called The Enemy. Developed by Mobage, Collectables will have your team going up against a host of different enemies, but it’s not one-sided since you got plenty of firepower too.
Just like other card battling games, the key to going far in Collectables is to collect those cards so your troops get the upgrade they need. Throughout the game you’ll come across several cards that give your troops access to adrenalin boosts, artillery strikes, Molotov cocktails and more. In short there’s plenty of action here and every now and then a bit of humor as well.
The graphics in the game are impressive, and it is complemented by the sound effects which makes the gunfire and explosions sound so real when they go off in your headphones. Aside from the graphics, the environment is well-designed as you can see foliage moving, and the light and shadows are rendered properly. The gameplay is easy to follow as your team simply has to go through the enemy territory, accomplish the objectives and return to the chopper, using tap and drag.
While that sounds easy, it isn’t really isn’t because as the game goes on the missions get harder. But this is compensated for by the large number of cards available, and your squad’s skills also increase as you progress through the levels. Because your squad goes after the enemies and target them, you don’t have to micro manage the Collectables.
