GParted is a GNOME partition editor that you can use to create, copy, move or delete hard disk partitions. Developed by Curtis Gedak, it also allows you to make a partition table with ease, and you can disable or enable partition flags like hidden and boot. If you are the type that wants to partition their hard disks but unsure how to proceed, this is something you will want to consider.

GParted also has support for ext4, ext3, ext2 and other journaled Linux file systems and it also works with FAT file systems and the Windows NTFS file systems, so there is no problem when it comes to compatibility and using it on different computers. While it is native to Linux you can install it on Windows also.

While GParted has a lot of features, it is quite easy to use especially if you are familiar with Linux. All the features you would need from a partition application are here, like deleting and creating a hard disk partition, move it if necessary or resize, a process that is usually complicated if not risky when done with other system utilities. GParted also lets you copy and paste information, set a new UUD, check and add labels to a newly partitioned disk.

If you just want to partition a hard disk the process is quite straightforward, but advanced users can manipulate file systems. It is also worth pointing out that the system requirements for GParted are very low, with only 128 MB of RAM needed to use all of its features.
