Let’s talk about surprises; more importantly, let’s talk about Charlotte Church.

For one thing, I have absolutely no idea on how this Welsh singer’s career has progressed throughout the years. The effort that only really resonated with me was her mind-blowing duet with Josh Groban: “The Prayer”.

Now, as I scan her recent EP, TWO (yes, there’s also a ONE and a THREE), I can’t believe this is the same young woman whom I thought relegated her repertoire along the lines of classical music forever.

Charlotte has skillfully transformed herself into a colleague of the likes of Emeli Sandé and Sia. Employing synth beats and progressive drum work with her haunting vocals, it was actually about time that she did this crossover. (Oh wait, maybe she has, years ago. [?])

Each of the tracks in the collection (“Glitterbombed” becoming my favorite) didn’t fail to deliver, as they all have that aural quality ready to take you to the galaxies above — and back. This is not your grade school Björk.

We can’t for her to bring to ‘church’ some more.

Track listing:
1. Glitterbombed
2. Breach of the Peace
3. The Mistress
4. Nerve
5. Lasts, or Eschaton
