A band that was formed in Montreal, Canada at the late 2010, Tracer Flare took almost a year of musical experimentation before they’ve set their wheels rolling. They are a four-piece crew with Dan Stein on guitars, Marc Morin on vocals and keyboards, Phil Duranlo on bass and Frank Roberts on drums; all of which sporting your typical alternative rock band look.

Black Box is a five-track album recorded on a hot Montreal summer that shows an evolution of the band sound without losing the track. It is like new wave mixed with alternative and progressive rock; just the perfect combination to lighten up anybody’s day.

Food Chain is a great place to start with to discover the band’s strong points and assets. Here, they embed catchy tunes to overly simple lyrics to easily grasp the listener’s attention. Although it already sounds very familiar to several alternative rock songs, they were still able to deliver that certain uniqueness that separates them from the others.

Time Bomb displays the bands ability to use orchestral arrangements and to utilize Dan’s voice on top of it. His somewhat falsetto voice and the pompous chorus keep the song pleasant to the ears. Madrid highlights Tracer Flare’s core sound techniques: from the thoughtful lyrics to the sophisticated instrumental layers and arrangements.

Resuscitate provides the album the very much needed edge and Somewhere wraps it up by boasting a classical drum line beat and gospel-easy chorus making it a sure favorite to some of us.

Tracer Flare has an interesting style that is eclectic and refreshing, giving it an original sense of experience and subliminal presence.
