Taking you on a universe of liquid dreams, Black City Lights‘ Parallels gives you a thick slice of ambient electro heaven.
Hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, Black City Lights are Calum Robb and Julia Catherine Parr. Released last March 19 through Stars & Letters, the duo’s debut EP offers six tracks of fresh ethereal tones.
Opening with slow and powerful drum patterns, title track Parallels bursts a rich dark energy. Julia’s heavenly and effortless voice shines through as the controlled arrangement of keys and drums gives space for more vocal showcase.
Maintaining the ambient vibe is River, a sonic gem of dark electro tunes that whirls in between lush synths. Get Away follows with a more upbeat vibe as electro tunes chanels a steady danceable rhytm.
Colour closes up the set with an intricate musical arrangement. Busy chime-like sounding keys are matched with sporadic drum beats that will surely soothe your senses.
In Parallels EP, Black City Lights have successfully created an album that boasts a coherent sonic theme and tracks that are pleasurable to hear.
