Swedish music blog, Apple Juice Break, has been posting about music ever since 2008. More recently, however, AJB decided to venture just a bit outside of their comfort zone into the world of art & graphic design and … even more music. Their recently created collective YES WAY!, has brought us a great new free EP, A Travelers Notebook, (made available on June 17th) by Virginia based vocalist & rapper Bobby Blunt and Australian born producer TA-KU.
The EP is a hip-hop, neo-soul, rap influenced 5-track release with just a hint of electronic sounds and some flawless vocals. Overall, a pretty sweet first collaboration project.
Coming to us from Norfolk, Virginia, Bobby Blunt a.k.a Bernard Eure is a singer, songwriter, and an emcee who at the young age of five discovered his ‘voice’ even though he stuttered; a discovery that led him on a journey full of competitions, emcee battles, and self-producing his very first album. Soon his unparalleled dedication to hip-hop culture led him to meet many talented deejays/producers and collaborate on various new releases.
His latest work, A Travelers Notebook, is yet another (among many other, so be sure to check out Blunt’s previous releases) example of just how his skills developed over the years; and I have to say that collaborating with TA-KU was just the right thing.
Although there are few awkward tunes in the EP, as in Encounter The First Glance (which remind me a little bit of a ‘slow-motion-like’ verse that just keeps on going), there are others like Bulletproof Soul and Memories that certainly make up for the fallback of one of its neighbors. Memories is definitely my favorite track in the EP. Filled with great vocals and lyrics, soft background chorus, and amazing beats it shows that with the collaboration between the right people we get some great sounding music.
