Season 6 Top 24 American Idol finds music off Idol stage. For Leslie Hunt, American Idol was certainly quite an experience. Reaching the top 24 was definitely was a dream come true for this new mother. Despite being voted off, Leslie continues on after stepping off the Idol stage.
Your Hair is on Fire is Leslie’s first album and from the way it sounds, it seems that she’s definitely grown as an artist and musician. The album is filled with jazzy, alternative pop tracks that boasts of Leslie’s powerful and slightly raspy vocals. Her ability to switch between powerhouse mode to sweet and sultry voice mode definitely makes majority of the 13 tracks in the album pretty much likable.
It seems Leslie has always had music in her blood; starting piano and singing at the young age of four. Ever since then, she has performed in various stages and became a part of the top ten females in American Idol Season 6. Currently, she fronts a band called District 97 and also regularly performs solo gigs.
Your Hair is on Fire is Leslie’s first album and contains tracks that echoed the happy and darker times that the artist has gone through. According to the artist, “Many of the songs on Your Hair Is On Fire were written as an observation of someone on the path to self-destruction, hence the title, but the overall theme is optimistic, as I have most certainly learned volumes from such darker times.”
Title track, Your Hair is on Fire is a beautiful sultry song that incorporates a slightly jazzy vibe with ironic lyrics while opener, American Dream Man is also an easy favorite with its dance inducing pop beat. It makes me think of a big swing band with a powerful voiced female vocalist. Lonely Home exhibits Leslie’s hypnotizing vocals yet again. When listening to the song, it’s tough not to picture a small, quiet jazz bar during the 60s or 70s.
