Pop indie music with dashes of alternative and coupled with sweet girl vocals. They might not be lefthanded but they sure can create good lovely music. I Am Not Lefthanded makes simple music sound as if it’s the only kind of song worth listening to. Their short album Time to Leave is a great blend of melodic indie rock with small doses of alternative rock.

Citing some of Indie music’s darlings (Rilo Kiley, Deathcab for Cutie and Weezer) as among their top favorites; it’s hard not to notice the obvious influence in sound and lyrical quality.

Made up of three talented individuals, namely, Kathryn (vocals, guitar, piano), Daniel (vocals, bass) and Benji (drums); I Am Not Lefthanded perfected their lineup and started playing gigs back in 2006. The band is known for their very independent approach when it comes to creating and handling their music, saying:

“We don’t play pop music, we don’t write music for art’s sake, we don’t represent any movements, we’re not hip, we’re not cutting edge, we don’t dress to be cool. We manage ourselves, we write our own songs, we do our own recordings, we shoot our own videos, we design our own covers, we run our own website. We’re not generally negative people.  Oh yes, and we’re not lefthanded.”

During August 2008, the band released a 7-track album, Yes Means No, under UK indie record label, Letterbox Records. This got good airplay around local as well as independent radio stations all around Scotland, London and Ireland. Time to Leave, on the other hand, is the bands latest release. Both releases are available for download on the band’s website as well as other music sites under creative commons. It’s also available for sale to those who are interested to help the band out.

The album opens up with The Place that Won’t Take Me Back which has a slow and slightly indie pop touch to it. Alternatively, tracks like Everybody Sleeps as well as Boats (Swept Away) are more uptempo.

Time to Leave is a great album to listen especially if you like long drives or if you simply feel melodramatic and pensive. Great captivating vocals along with soft, indie alternative music; something you shouldn’t miss out on.
