Dreamy soundscapes with quiet vocals; a chance to sit back and think nothing. Be Brave Benjamin is essentially Ben Palmer and his guitar singing about everything in his life.
It’s a mixture of acoustic, slightly folksy compilation of songs which are easy to listen to. Formerly known as Wiseacre, this talented Welsh singer is currently creating music from Barcelona where he’s marooned and stationed.
Be Brave Benjamin has performed in various key cities like London, Cardiff, New York and Philadelphia. His songs and lyrics deal with the various circumstances that come his way. Like many artists, he takes his personal thoughts, emotions and curveball experiences and meshes them together into a big ball of fine music. Instances where he probably suffered from night outs with too many beer bottles and his eventual longing for “A Place to Vomit and a Bed;” to smooth, subtle admonitions to a woman in “He Only Loves You When You’re Sleeping.”
These colorful and subtle lyrics give each of the songs a charm that is distinct and impressionistic. I must admit, although the titles somewhat give it away, listening to the lyrics is a great experience in itself. Out of all the songs in this self-titled release, perhaps “Fool Notion” is the most untypical. From its ethnic tinge to the bizarre backing vocals, it was the only deviant track in the entire collection.
I honestly enjoyed listening to this compilation. It’s reminiscent of a night out in the city and at the same time Saturday nights spent alone in your bedroom. A great compilation to listen to if you want to relax and see reality in a different light. Acoustic and folk with a spritz of Indie pop at its finest for me.
